One of my favourite mantra’s when it comes to my office and desk space is that a cluttered desk creates a cluttered mind! It isn’t as simple as purging the lot, because there are so many office essentials that are really important to a functioning desk space.

When Officeworks asked if I wanted to be involved in showing people examples of how to work smarter and leave it to your dollar to work harder, I was super keen. Stationery, organising, styling and budgeting. Just a few of my favourite things!

Seeing as Officeworks is the hub of all things, well, office, I knew there’d be something for everyone. And because they bulk buy, we consumers are the ones who reap all the rewards shopping at lower prices (just check the price ticket on shelving and you can often see a special bulk price when YOU buy a certain amount of something. You’re welcome).

Today I’m giving you three possible ways to make your money work smarter with a refreshed desk based on three different budgets!

Under $50

I honestly can’t stress enough how much organisation can help your desk look neat, stylish and functional. You don’t have to sacrifice looks for function.

Start by getting rid of things that just aren’t relevant to your workspace, and allocating places for the things that need to stay. If everything has a place, and you return it there after each time you use it, your desk should look exactly the same way it did the day you organised it.

Ain’t nobody got time to be searching for a pen, so organisational tools like the drawer tidy can stop chaos in its’ tracks and ensure that all of your important bits and pieces are kept right there in front of you. You don’t need a drawer – place this clear drawer tidy on your desk top for easy access and have some fun with it by including your favourite washi tapes and quirky paper clips.

Under $100

Remember that time I said you don’t have to choose between beauty and purpose? Yeah… about 10 seconds ago. Well, if you have the dollars, I suggest that you invest in a cube bookshelf. They’ve been “in” for a while now and I foresee them being an in thing for a while yet to come, all because of their versatility, storage and display capability and how easily you can pretty them up with a few small decor pieces.

Storing office supplies and a few bright and fun items on a cube bookcase can turn your work space from drab to fab in 10 seconds flat (slight misrepresentation because it took me about 30 minutes to put this bad boy together). Compartmentalising things can keep them super neat and make it easy for you to see at a glance what you have, and what you may need to add to your list.

Under $200

Desks can become a dumping ground for all things that should be stored, filed and, quite frankly, thrown out! When we think filing cabinets generally you see a great, hulking, hideous thing, but this 3 drawer pedestal is my styling and efficiency saviour.

I think that the drawer tidy looks quite beautiful on my desktop, but if you don’t have a large space to work with it might be more plausible for you to be using a set of drawers. This drawer pedestal has two small drawers that are perfect for storing notebooks, pens, washi tape addictions collections and the like, whilst the third drawer is perfect for filing. Get that paperwork off your desk, and file it away in this beautiful cabinet to get more out of your workspace.

Combine this with the cube bookcase and you have an office to envy. Except no body needs to envy this because it’s totally achievable!

  1. I’m loving these ideas. We are renovating and at the moment I’m working out of what I like to call the ‘junk room’. Once the renos are complete, I will have a brand spanking new home office and I can’t wait to deck it out with things like this. And for me, storage is the key…as well as a very inspirational space!

    • Thank you! It really was easy to do.
Oh no, Eva, our junk room is also referred to as “the garage”! Can’t wait to see what you do with your newly renovated office space!!!

  2. That’s just a tiny bit of a washi tape addiction there, lovely lady 🙂 You know what? I really feel like I NEED that cube shelf and I NEED that lovely blue set of drawers with the filing section. Our office is a mess and it needs a makeover BIG TIME. Might just head down to Officeworks this weekend. Thanks for the tips. #teamIBOT

  3. OMG washi tape envy!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thought I had heaps, but you way out do me. So everytime Trent complains about my collection I shall show him this post lol. Love the cube shelves too, I really want some of these just not sure if a certain toddler would try and turn them into a jungle gym.

    • Haha I do that on Instagram to convince Aaron I don’t have a problem!
Yes! The cube shelves are amazing. As far as safety goes, they do come with wall brackets to secure them to the wall, but yes I am sure they would be chaos in a home with a toddler!!! Xox
